Solid American Oak Staircase
This solid American oak staircase was built for a client in Staffordshire who wanted a more substantial and imposing staircase than the existing softwood 70's monstrosity!

With solid oak strings, treads and oak-faced plywood risers, this staircase was built with turned 117x117mm newel posts and 56x56mm spindles (Craftsman Choice range).
These newels and spindles are a lot bigger than standard to give a hefty, solid feel.

The stairs were machined in the workshop and numbered and assembled in the room to suit the clients needs.
Oak drawer pegs were made to knock through the mortice and tenoned joints on the handrails and strings - this pulls the joints up tight and makes a very strong fixing.

As a finishing touch, under the landing provided ideal storage and so we made a pair of oak boarded doors to form a useful cupboard.
