Green Oak Framed Pavilion For Westlands Bowling Club

We were approached by Tony Smith, club secretary of the Westlands Bowling Club, to build an oak framed pavilion, replacing the existing timber clubhouse.

We were also tasked with project managing the build, organising electricians, plumbers and trades.

 Demolishing the old club house

We started the project by taking down the existing club house.

Day 3, with the building down, we were ready to make a start with the ground work.

In the meantime, we collected the green oak from the sawmill ready to go back to the workshop to surface dry.

Ground works progressed with the old foundations dug out.

Back at the workshop, pre-assembly of the oak frame was underway (in the warmth!).

On 22nd January 2013 we had a big dump of snow, which meant having to clear it all off the scaffold, ready to start assembling the oak framed building.

With the daylight hours so short at this time of year, we had to get the flood lights out.

The oak frame was almost in place at this stage despite the awful weather!

By the 1st February, the traditional hipped roof is on with all the 45mm x 95mm C16 s/wd timber framework fixed between the main oak posts and covered with one layer of breathable membrane.

All of the 45mm x 195mm C24 s/wd ceiling joists are in place here, bolted to the 45mm x 170mm C24 s/wd rafters.
